Messy Play/ Food Is Fun!

Continuing with the Messy Play, today we explored Tapioca. Oh it’s so smooth and soft and squidgy…not sure I’ve ever eaten it before as it just looks too weird. But I didn’t tell Daisy that! Daisy was happy to stick her fingers in it, squish it with her hands and poke it with a spoon or two. Messy play is all part of desensitising Daisy and working towards reducing her oral aversion. I can’t remember whether I have written about how she is very happy to put toys, dirt or rubbish in her mouth but not food. Sometimes even the look of food can make her gag and throw up or if she gets a little on her lip. In her mind she just associates it with nasty tubes in her throat  or sticky painful tape stuck to her face holding in NG tubes. We are working with the local Feeding and swallowing specialists and my fabulous friend in America to help Daisy to realise that food is not her number one enemy. ( That’s her brother…kidding!!)

Please excuse the pineapple onto of her head…she just wouldn’t keep still!
